Get organized with Cheap and Easy Rustic Storage

TweetThe kitchen pantry is an area in my home that I am determined to get organized! There have been way too many times that I’ve gone to the pantry and haven’t been able to find what I’m looking for and end up re-buying it. Every couple of months we clean it out and reorganize it. But after a week or two it’s back to  the way it was.   A while back, before the days of Pinterest, I came across this pantry in a blog post from Shelley at The House of Smiths.   Source: thehouseofsmiths.com    This pantry is perfect. Maybe too perfect. I don’t think I’ll ever reach this but if get 50% there, I’m good.   Notice that wooden crate on the lower shelf? I was on the hunt for one for months. Once, I found something similar at Hobby Lobby but they wanted $40 for it. Way too much to spend on something for the pantry.   Then I came across this pin:     Nice huh? Now where to find a wine crate?    Time for a story   One evening, we were out with friends at a wine shop. We had some wine and lots of laughs. Imagine my surprise, when on the way to the ladies room, I came across a huge stack of wine crates!  The crates were mixed in with cardboard boxes and you could tell that they were just stashed there until they could be thrown out.   After a

Winner, Winner! Yummy Cheesy Chicken Dinner

TweetI’m a terrible meal planner.  Somehow, even after buying a full cart of groceries over the weekend we have nothing to make for dinner on Monday. Please say this isn’t just me!   Just this week I ran into this problem. After a quick Pinterest search for ideas on what to make for dinner I found this tasty looking pin. I’m a sucker for cheese covered anything.     Paula at Dishing the Divine calls this Easy Stuffed Chicken Breasts with Parmesan and Basil Filling.   Did she say easy? That’s exactly what I needed. Luckily, I had everything for the recipe at home except basil and garlic. I’m not sure about where you live, but the fresh basil at my nearby super mega-mart is awful. They wanted 3 bucks for some pale, wilted, lifeless looking basil. No way!   I have a basil plant at home but it has been plucked pretty thin and I knew I wouldn’t have enough for the recipe. I put my creative thinking cap on and after a few seconds of some intense thinking and some deep breathing…. stand back….I decided on spinach! Spinach is close enough to basil, right??? It is green and leafy. Best of all the kids will eat it especially, when it is covered in cheese.   I must have done some really intense thinking in the produce section because after I decided on the spinach another brilliant idea came to mind, sundried tomatoes. I love sundried tomatoes! They add such a

Pinterest Party: The Food Review

TweetLast week, I hosted a Pinterest party. If you missed the post about our wild party click here to read all about it.  In keeping with the Pinterest theme of the party, the food I made used recipes found through Pinterest.   Lets start with the most important party food group, cocktails.   This lovely little pin linked me to Peace Love Guacamole. Jenny’s fun and funky blog with this fabulous and easy cocktail recipe for Hippie Juice. Where has Hippie Juice been all my life?  This is easy to make and very easy to drink.   Ingredients include Fresh Strawberries Powdered Pink Lemonade Mix Watermelon Vodka Triple Sec Coconut Rum Water Since I wanted to have enough for the party I made a double batch in a large pitcher. It is not too tart but not too sweet and the fresh strawberries were a nice surprise at the bottom of the cup. Jenny recommends cutting the strawberries into quarters but the ones I bought were really big so, I chopped them into bite sized pieces. Other than that small change I followed the recipe exactly. I served it chilled out of the fridge and it was good but my favorite way was over crushed ice.     This drink was a hit at the party and I’m sure I’ll be making it again soon! It’s Pink and pretty, a perfect girly drink. The only thing that could make it better is if it were calorie free. I think I’ll try making
