A Pinterest Before and After Hairstyle

TweetIn an alternate universe somewhere I have long luxurious beautiful hair like this:   Source: boards.weddingbee.com via Mediha on Pinterest   In that universe I live on the beach, my kids always pick up after themselves and  the Kardashians would never be allowed to have their own reality show.  I can dream can’t I? The closest I ever came to this was way back in high school. It was long, it had natural curl but looked more like this…   Source:  Pinterest     After I had my kids, I decided to cut my hair short to keep things easy. As they got older, I tried to grow it out but I would get impatient with it and cut it again.  I found that as my hair grew, it was not becoming beautiful or luxurious.  It was thin and stringy. After each of my pregnancies my hair got straighter and thinner. Am I the only one this happened to?   Back to reality   Last year, I came to terms with it and realized that long luxurious beautiful hair was not going to happen. It was time to stop fighting nature and work with what I had. I’ve had varying lengths of  short hair since. There are lots of good things about having short hair. Takes less time to wash, dry, and style You can use a smaller amount of  styling product Doesn’t dip into your food Doesn’t get caught in car doors   Last weekend I had a hair appointment at The Hideaway Spa and Salon in Fort Worth, Texas. It had been about 2 months since

Pinterest Inspired Idea for an Easy Gift and how to Keep It Clean

TweetMy beautiful and talented blogging buddy Meagan, from Meagan’s Musings, was recently inspired by Pinterest to create an adorable yet easy gift for her son’s teacher. She was inspired by this pin:     Here’s her version:     Nice huh? Head over to her blog for a free tag download to make your own. I think these would also be great gift card holders for those upcoming summer birthdays.   Sometimes cute things have a dark side   Meagan’s cup project reminded me of something.  I’m all for being environmentally friendly and like that these cups are reusable but I’ve had some reservations about the straw. How do I clean that sucker???? I know, I know I’m being a germ-a-phobe. I’m a nurse what can I say? These cups are very popular in my office and a fellow nurse, Denise, showed me a little trick with extra long cotton swabs. She covered a swab in dish soap and used it to clean the inside of the straw of her cup.     Want to see what happened when she cleaned hers? Warning:The following picture may be disturbing…     Ewww! This is what came out of her straw and she cleans it regularly! She usually drinks iced tea out of hers, so this is probably mostly just dried up tea but my gut tells me there’s something more. Now that I know how to clean these, I’m not so leery of the straws. I found a package of 100 cotton swabs for $1

Need a New Summer Salad? Try This Mediterranean Inspired Vegetable Pasta Recipe Found Through Pinterest

TweetLooking for something other than the humdrum potato salad to take to those summer barbecues and parties just around the corner? How about something full of color and flavor? I found this this Pinterest pin that might just be the answer……     If you’re anything like me, you’re thinking…. Roasted vegetables in the summer? Sounds like something to make in the fall. I gave it a try for the first time a few weeks ago and found some of great things about this dish that make it great for summer get-togethers. It has a nice light flavor Has great color for that “ooh” factor when taking it to parties Can be served hot or cold (I preferred mine a little cool but not ice cold) The recipe makes enough for at least 1o servings (add more veggies for more servings) Can be prepared ahead of time   The recipe is Amy’s from She Wears Many Hats. Click here for the full recipe and see her beautiful blog.  The ingredients include -Eggplant         -Red onion         -Garlic       -Basil leaves -Yellow and red bell peppers      -Green onions -Orzo pasta       -Pine nuts       -Feta cheese -Lemon juice   -Extra virgin olive oil -Salt & pepper   Basically, the veggies are roasted, mixed together with the cooked pasta, pine nuts, green onion and cheese. It’s finished off with a light lemony dressing. Sounds easy enough, huh? Well, I’ve made this a couple of times
