Here are a few tips to keep in mind: Use high quality images Image size -maximum of 600 pixels wide by any length long (be careful not to make too long or people will have to scroll to see entire image and skip it) Use contrasting or bright colors Use text on image to tell what it is Put URL on image- if the link is ever broken, the original source can be found Here’s a small sample of some good and not so good Pinterest pins. #1. Not enough color contrast between background and food #2. This pin is about recovering chairs from table cloths. Can you tell from this pin? #3. Great pin example- Bright colors, tells what it is for, has a URL Editing or creating images Editing To be noticed and re-pinned on Pinterest, your pin has to be a stellar image. Unfortunately, we are not all born as Photoshop wizards. If you’re like me and Photoshop leads to ulcer development, there are easy, quick and free alternatives. How to Make Pinterest Better: Part 2
Tweet If you missed part 1 of this 3 part series on how to make Pinterest better, click here Part 2 How to upload pins The ‘Pin it’ button allows us to bring images from cyberspace onto our boards, but what if the image we want to share is something that is not online? There’s an answer for that, the Add+ button. When you click the ‘Add+’ button, a box opens up with 3 options Add a Pin, Upload a Pin or Create a Board. Add a Pin – allows you to pin an image from a website by entering the URL like the “Pin it “ button discussed in Part 1 Create a Board- use this to add new boards to your profile ***BONUS TIP*** Create a Board is also where you can make collaborative boards boards that multiple pinners can pin to. (Great for group projects) When you click on ‘Upload a Pin‘, you will be able to create a pin from an image saved on your computer. Click on ‘Choose File” and select the image from your files that you would like to use Here, add a description and choose a board to pin it to. This is a great option to share and organize photos that you take or images that you create that are not available on your website or blog. How a PhD Uses Pinterest to Promote Her Work
Tweet Have you ever heard the name Jasmina Kally? No? Well, she is brilliant. She is a screen writer, author, lecturer and holds a PhD. On top of all that, she is using Pinterest in an absolutely amazing way. She has written a novel called Beat Girl. It is about a girl named Heather Jennings recovering from the death of her mother and trying to find her way in life. She has to choose between the life that she had planned of going to Julliard and classical piano or a new life that includes a guy named Toby and techno. Jasmina has given us ways to get to know Heather beyond the novel. She has developed web series based on the book and has taken Heather’s character a step even further by giving her a presence on Pinterest. Heather Jennings, a fictional character, has her own Pinterest account! There are boards that include videos and images with quotes from the YouTube web series and there are also boards that show us even more about Heather. Boards with inspirational quotes and images about friendship and music, boards about her friend Amy’s fashion sense, and boards about New York City and her favorite movies all give further insight into Heather’s fictional life. The approach Jasmina has taken on Pinterest is not only a way to promote her book and web series, but also gives the character more depth and personality. It almost makes Heather seem more real.
