Teen Site PopCosmo Grows Traffic with Pinterest

TweetPinterest has quickly become famous for driving massive amounts traffic to blogs and websites. In September, Shareaholic reported “Pinterest sent more traffic than Yahoo organic traffic and is now the fourth largest traffic source in the world.“ For the mother-daughter team behind the popular teen lifestyle website, PopCosmo, Pinterest is more than just a crush.       PopCosmo was born when Chloe moved with her family to Louisville, Kentucky. She was starting high school in a new city and with her mom, Kim, they came up with an idea for new website. The original premise was to simply be about what teens could do in Louisville but, that simple concept grew into much more. Kim describes PopCosmo as “a trend spotting website bringing teen girls the latest in fashion, beauty, DIY, and lifestyle both nationally and locally.” Fashion, beauty and DIY? Sounds like it Pinterest and PopCosmo were a match made in heaven. They are leveraging social media to grow their website, and can be found on many social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Chloe, the teen powerhouse (she used to compete in triathlons) behind PopCosmo, manages the Pinterest account. Pinterest has had a big impact on their success. According to Kim, “Pinterest accounts for almost 1/2 of our referral traffic and about 20 % of overall traffic. Friday Pinterest Quick Tip Blocking Accounts

TweetLast summer I heard a story about a woman whose fiance’s ex-wife was following her on Pinterest. As the woman pinned things to help her plan her wedding the ex-wife would repin them. Needless to say, the woman was frustrated by this but there was nothing she could do. Last summer there was no way to block users from following you or seeing your pins.   That has changed. Pinterest recently implemented the block user option. This allows you to block specific people from following your account and repining your pins.  The story of the bride-to-be isn’t an isolated story, I’ve heard of many others wanting to block others from their account too. Cheers to Pinterest for listening to their users!   How to Block Someone on Pinterest   From the users main profile page you will see a small flag in the bottom right corner of the profile description box. When you hover over it, the flag will turn red and a drop-down list will appear. The option to block them is at the very bottom of the list.     This is also where you can report a user  for misusing Pinterest or pinning inappropriate content.  According to the Pinterest official blog,  the Pinterest community will be notified when an account has been reported and will review the account. Blocking does not have to be permanent. If you go back to an account that has been perviously blocked you will find an unblock option.   For more information you can visit the Pinterest support page here. What feature would you like to see Pinterest implement next?

To use it,  you need an Xbox 360 Console, an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership and an internet connection.     Before we get to the “how to” part of this post, there’s something new on the dashboard home page. It seems that Microsoft, the makers of Xbox, have are using some Pinterest like terminology.  The home screen of  Xbox Live now has a  My Pins box. Here, you can pin links to your favorite Xbox apps and content to this easy to access menu. Sound familiar?     How to get Pinterest on the big screen. From the home screen, scroll over to to the apps page. Notice the big blue Internet Explorer icon? this is a new feature on the Xbox and, it is what makes using Pinterest on your TV possible.     When you open the Internet Explorer app you can access a list of features sites and Pinterest is one of them.  Click on it and you are taken to the login page of Pinterest.     Log into Pinterest and start Pinning on the big screen.   Everything within Pinterest on the Xbox seems to function just as it does on a computer. Pins look the same, you can click and go to the sources of pins
