Last year, if some one had come up to me and said the words pin, repin and pinner, I would have thought that they were talking about sewing. Now, those are words I use every day and there isn’t a needle in sight. Beyond the change in my vocabulary, Pinterest has caused some major changes in my life.
Here are the top 5 ways Pinterest has impacted my life:
1. Changes at Home
I started trying new recipes, doing new craft projects, and even found new ways to clean my shower. Every time I tried something new my husband would ask “Where did you learn that? ” or “That was good, where did you get that recipe from?” Each time, my response was “Pinterest”.
2.Developing a Blog About Pinterest
As I did more of what I found on Pinterest, the more I wanted to share what I was doing and learning. So why not start my own blog?
For weeks, I spent every spare minute I had learning about themes, widgets, plugins, CSS and HTML. What the heck is a widget? I thought that was a made up word from the Jetsons.
How do those other bloggers make blogging look so easy? I had never taken the time to scroll all the way down to the footer to see that a lot of their layouts had been designed by professional designers.
After many headaches, frightened children and lots of wine, OhSoPinteresting.com was born.
***Notice*** No children were harmed during the creation of this blog – at least not permanently.
3. Learning Photography
Pinterest is all about the pictures, right?
I thought the pictures taken on my pocket camera would be good enough to use on the blog posts. Boy, was I wrong!
I started a Blog Photography board on Pinterest and have been linked to several sources of easy to understand photography help. After a lot of reading and a little more wine, I am slowly learning how to use my new DSLR camera. I know I have a long way to go but I think it’s getting better, or maybe it’s just the wine.
4. Making New Friends
Talking to strangers hasn’t always been easy for me. I worried about what type of response I would get from people when asking them about having one of their Pinterest projects featured on my blog.
The first person I emailed about this was Lollie from The Fortuitous Housewife. I shouldn’t have worried at all. She and all of the other bloggers I have encountered through email and in person have been very friendly and supportive. Because of Pinterest and my blog, I have made connections with people who live close by and from all over the country.
Even though we live halfway across the country from each other, I was lucky enough to get to meet my new friend Lollie in person lat week in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
5. Pinterest Changed my Anniversary Travel Plans
This month my husband and I will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. The original plan was to fly off to one of those fabulous European places I’ve pinned on my ‘Places and Spaces‘ Pinterest board, but that didn’t happen. As I got more involved in the blogosphere I quickly saw that there was a lot more that I needed to learn.
Last week my fabulously supportive husband and I traveled to New York City to attend Blog World and New Media Expo. What the heck is Blog World you ask? It is a conference of a couple of thousand bloggers, social media experts and podcasters. I met some really wonderful people and learned a lot. I have been inspired by those amazing people to begin a podcast.
Stay tuned for more details on that new adventure…..
Pinterest has changed my life, it has opened up a whole new world and I know it is only the beginning. In keeping with my new motto of “Don’t just pin it, do it!”, I will keep on pinning and doing and learning. Who knows what it will lead to next?
I hope that you’re inspired by Pinterst too. It is easy to just click the mouse and pin, but why not go ahead and step out on a limb and try something new? I’d love to hear all about it.
