Decorating Geek Style with Pinterest

TweetThis guest post is by Miranda Sanchez of  Press X Twice   When I first received my Pinterest invitation email, I was elated. At the time, Pinterest was some secretive website that no one knew much about. Once I got my email, I excitedly made my account. And then it sat there for a really long time with no pins and only a few followers. It wasn’t until this summer that Pinterest sparked my interest. It was a gradual growing relationship, starting off as a small spark that eventually became a strong flame. I just took my relationship with Pinterest to the next level: actually doing my pins.     Lately I’ve been searching for cute decorations that reflect my nerdy passions for my new apartment. As you can imagine, that’s not an easy feat. This is where this pin came into play. So instead of having bare walls I will now have these geeky beauties from my favorite video game series. The top left is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, top right is BioShock, bottom left is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and the bottom right is Halo 4:       Wall Art Supplies They weren’t really that difficult to make. Here are all the things I used: ModPodge Scissors Short Ruler Shoebox Lid Foam Brush Magazine Clippings Box Cutter Pen Tape       Wall Art Assembly After I rounded up all my materials, I measured and marked 4 x 4 inch squares in my

Does Fear Keep you From Trying Pinterest Projects?

Tweet“‘I’m just not crafty.” “I’m not creative.” “I don’t have that kind of talent.” “That’s too artsy fartsy.”   I have heard the above statements many times over the years, and honestly, I’ve said it before. I understand arts and crafts are not for everyone but, I think most of these statements come from  fear of failure. It takes practice,  patience and time to learn any new skill right? We don’t all take our first step and then go straight to running marathons do we? No, we stumble, we fall and eventually we walk. I have a 99% success rate with walking, the other 1% I’m caught off guard by things like walls and curbs. I keep trying. At my Pinterest Party a while back, no one had ever tried quilling before. Nobody left that party a quilling expert but we had fun.   Don’t just pin it, do it   That’s the In the spirit of Oh So Pinteresting and in that spirit, I’d like to introduce you to Leslie. Leslie loves to sew. She loves it so much, that she writes for the blog of the American Sewing Guild’s chapter in Salt Lake City, Utah. She sews all sorts of things but her favorite is children’s clothing. She sometimes finds inspiration for projects on Pinterest like this:    Source: notonthehighstreet.com via Cherry Bubbins on Pinterest   Lesile just so happened to be in the process of decorating her 11 year-old daughter’s room when she came across this pin. Having a bed that looks like a sheet of notebook paper that can be doodled on

Pinterest Inspired Idea for an Easy Gift and how to Keep It Clean

TweetMy beautiful and talented blogging buddy Meagan, from Meagan’s Musings, was recently inspired by Pinterest to create an adorable yet easy gift for her son’s teacher. She was inspired by this pin:     Here’s her version:     Nice huh? Head over to her blog for a free tag download to make your own. I think these would also be great gift card holders for those upcoming summer birthdays.   Sometimes cute things have a dark side   Meagan’s cup project reminded me of something.  I’m all for being environmentally friendly and like that these cups are reusable but I’ve had some reservations about the straw. How do I clean that sucker???? I know, I know I’m being a germ-a-phobe. I’m a nurse what can I say? These cups are very popular in my office and a fellow nurse, Denise, showed me a little trick with extra long cotton swabs. She covered a swab in dish soap and used it to clean the inside of the straw of her cup.     Want to see what happened when she cleaned hers? Warning:The following picture may be disturbing…     Ewww! This is what came out of her straw and she cleans it regularly! She usually drinks iced tea out of hers, so this is probably mostly just dried up tea but my gut tells me there’s something more. Now that I know how to clean these, I’m not so leery of the straws. I found a package of 100 cotton swabs for $1
